What Does a Key Aide’s Departure Mean for Milei?

Juan Cruz Díaz, Managing Director at Cefeidas Group, was featured in the Latin America Advisor (a daily publication of The Dialogue), where he analyzed the political implications of the resignation of Argentine Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni and what it means for President Javier Milei’s administration.

According to Díaz, Adorni’s departure removes a significant political distraction that had increasingly complicated the government’s relationship with Congress and weakened its anti-corruption narrative. While the administration now has an opportunity to reset the political agenda, Díaz argues that restoring momentum will depend on its ability to rebuild legislative support and regain public confidence.

He also highlighted President Milei’s appointment of Diego Santilli as Chief of Cabinet as a sign of a more pragmatic governing strategy. Drawing on Santilli’s experience negotiating across party lines, Díaz believes the move reflects a growing recognition that political stability and effective coalition-building have become essential for advancing the government’s reform agenda.

As Díaz concludes, the success of this new phase will ultimately depend on whether the administration is willing to leverage Santilli’s political capital to broaden congressional support and translate institutional changes into legislative progress.
