On September 4, the Latin America Advisor (Inter-American Dialogue) published insights from Juan Cruz Díaz, Managing Director of Cefeidas Group, on the political implications of the bribery allegations affecting the Argentine government.
Juan Cruz highlighted that the controversy represents the most serious scandal faced by the Milei administration so far, undermining its ability to control the political narrative. He noted that, if the judiciary advances the case with evidence against the government, it could negatively impact the upcoming October midterm elections by eroding one of La Libertad Avanza’s central pillars: the promise of a fresh start, free from the practices of the “political caste.”
Nonetheless, he emphasized that the most decisive factor for voters remains the economy. While inflation has been reduced, recent turbulence in the foreign exchange market and rising interest rates could amplify public discontent.
