A draft report on strengthening corporate governance codes in Latin America was presented to participants of the 2016 OECD Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable, held on September 8-9 in Costa Rica.

Cefeidas Group’s Managing Director Santiago Chaher, who prepared the report, moderated a session that considered the development, use and promotion of corporate governance codes across the region.

The panel, composed of experts from Colombia, Chile, Peru and Costa Rica also explored the role that policy-makers and regulators have in promoting corporate governance practices recommended by codes.

The second session, which drew from the experiences of experts in Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador and Italy, focused on how markets can promote and encourage the implementation of corporate governance codes.

The OECD Corporate Governance Roundtable brought together senior policy-makers, regulators and market participants from Latin America, Spain, Turkey, and the United States to set priorities for corporate governance improvement in the region.

Among other themes discussed at the two-day event were transparency and corporate governance of company groups, recent experiences in reforms to state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and corporate governance and business integrity.

The event was co-hosted by the OECD, Costa Rican Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (COMEX) and the Institute of Corporate Governance in Costa Rica (ICG).
